On January 15, the Hastings-on Hudson Fire Department conducted a drill at the Westchester County Fire Training Center. The goal of the drill was to replicate basement fires. Basement fires are extremely difficult to combat due to the confined enclosed space. They are extremely hot and smokey, making it dangerous for firefighters. The firefighters used a training prop called the Blast Trailer that uses gas-fired props to replicate the extremely high heat, flames and smoke they will face in a real basement fire. All four companies and the Fire Department Ambulance Corps. participated. Your all-volunteer Fire Department is constantly training to prepare for any situation they may face to keep you and your family safe.
