Members of the Hastings-on-Hudson Fire Department were invited to the Hastings Day Camp at Hillside School to provide a fire safety presentation. The event was held to help the campers understand what they should do in case of a fire and show them the equipment carried on the fire engine. Surprisingly, when asked if they have ever had a fire drill at their home, all but two of the 50 kids in attendance said no. At the end of the event, the children were encouraged to go home and ask their parents about the fire plan for their family in case of a fire at home. The children enjoyed putting on the fire helmets, looking at Engine 45 and learning about the Fire Department. The Fire Department provides fire safety training to schools, groups and organizations in the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson. This is another service provided by your all-volunteer Fire Department. Education, planning and smoke detectors are the pillars of fire safety.
