At 08:22am, The Hastings on Hudson Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a mutual aide engine, requested by Ardsley FD, to respond to the thruway rest area adjacent to Jackson Ave for a reported tractor trailer on fire near the fuel pumps.

Engine 45, Uniontown hose, and it’s members, at the direction of assistant chiefs Schnibbe and Lindner accessed the area via the gated entrance off of Jackson Ave.

The 45 crew made a quick crosslay hose stretch and immediately got water onto the fire which was just the tractor portion, no trailer and not at the fuel pumps, thankfully.

With their 750 Gallons of tank water equipped with F-500, (a hydro carbon encapsulator, water additive) they made a quick knock down of the towering flames. Engine 45 chauffeur hand stretched a supply line back to the hydrant to establish a positive water source. Upon arrival of Ardsley engine 164 and Ladder 50, their crews went to work with a foam suppression operation to completely smother the flames and fuel tank fire. Both departments assisted in overhauling the remains and cleaning and pack up the fire hoses.

A tremendous job handled with ease by all involved.

Some excellent photos from Engine 45 chauffeur and Ardsley assistant chief.
