On November 7th the Hastings Fire Department responded to a report of a smoke detector activation in a dormitory on a campus for youths. Upon arrival the staff had evacuated the occupants of the dormitory and reported that a third floor bed room was on fire. Upon entering the third floor members were confronted with a heavy smoke condition. Mutual Aid was requested from the surrounding river towns fire departments as a precaution. The fire was contained to the bedroom and the automatic sprinkler system activated. A check for occupants and fire extension was conducted with negative results. Fans were set up to remove the smoke and overhaul was conducted. The Westchester County Cause And Origin team was called to investigate the fire along with the Hastings Police. One resident was transported to Westchester County Medical Center by Hastings Fire Department Ambulance. Our Department would like to thank the following departments for their assistance.
