On November 13th the HFD was called to a fire between two apartment buildings on Warburton Ave. Upon arrival there was a pile of trash in the alley next to an occupied Apartment building that was burning. Hastings Police Officers Jessie Ferreira and Chris Sorano were first on scene and evacuated the building due to the heavy smoke that filled the hallway of the building. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Hastings Volunteer Fire Department. A check for extension inside of the building was negative and the residents were allowed to return to their apartments. Although it was only a trash fire the proximity to the wood framed building and the strong winds coming off the Hudson river that can cause a fire to spread rapidly made this incident very dangerous. The probable cause of the fire was some one tossing a cigarette into the alley.
