We exist to provide to the people of Hastings-on-Hudson and our Fire Protection District with a professional level of fire safety and life safety including Emergency Medical Services, and to prevent or minimize loss of life, pain, suffering and property damage. We will accomplish this through the effective utilization of our all-volunteer membership in the use of state-of-the-art equipment, continuous practice of comprehensive training programs, innovative and aggressive use of techniques and to provide the highest quality of service with a commitment towards excellence.
The Hastings-on-Hudson Fire Department is comprised of 4 Fire Companies and the Ambulance Corps. The Companies total approximately 130 men and women who provide Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services for the residents of Hastings-on-Hudson. Fire Protection is also provided for the Donald Park area under contract with the Town of Greenburgh.
The Ambulance Corps maintains a duty roster manned by volunteers from the membership of the 4 Fire
Companies, the Ambulance Corps responds to an average of over 650 calls per year. A Fire Police unit
which maintains fire lanes and directs traffic on the fireground is also manned by volunteers from the
membership of the 4 Fire Companies. A new addition for the Department is the “Venture Crew" )this Crew is also known as the “Junior Firefighters.”) They are boys and girls ages 14 to 18 who perform many firefighting duties under the direct supervision of active Firefighters called “Advisors.” Companies are largely self-governing and elect their own officers, as do the Ambulance Corps, the Fire Police and the Venture Crew. Overall command and direction of the Department is provided by the Fire Chief and the Assistant Fire Chiefs.
Hastings-on-Hudson enjoys one of the lowest fire insurance rates possible for a Volunteer Fire Department. These rates are calculated by the Insurance Services Office (ISO), based on reviews of individual Fire Departments.
