| Ladder-22 and the Hastings on Hudson Fire Department are mourning the passing of ex-Capt. Robert Jadkowski. Bob was a 50-year member of the Department. He died on Nov. 18, 2014, after a battle with cancer.
Bob was an integral member of L-22, serving as captain in 1980-81, as well as driver, tillerman and head of entertainment. As recently as this summer he still helped organize the pig roast, which he started. He was known to many as the “Silver Fox”--a consummate wheeler-dealer, said to have won a suspiciously large number of raffles and 50/50’s.
Bob was an avid cook and gardener, who often handed out home-grown tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. He loved the outdoors: Members of the department remember going fishing and crabbing with him on the Hudson and Long Island Sound, and hunting trips with guns blazing out the car window as they headed up back-roads.
Bob lived in Hastings all his life, graduating from Hastings High School in 1954. He was a member of the Hastings Southside Social & Athletic Club, where he was known for his shuffleboard play. He worked at the Tensolite Wire Company in Tarrytown for 30 years, rising to the position of Director of Manufacturing; and then for Thermo-Electric Wire of New Jersey.
Bob is survived by his son James and sisters Estelle Breckles and Ruthanne Mignogna, as well as his partner Bobbi Zabarowska.
Capt. Robert Jadkowski, proud member of Ladder-22, was 78 years old. |
